Rest in the Beauty of Art by Visual Language Magazine Artist of the Day Valerie Travers

The Island of Guernsey, second largest of the Channel Islands, is where I live with my two sons and where I feel most comfortable. This is home, my roots are deeply embedded here.
Art is second nature to me, enabling a connection to the bigger picture and is also a way of expressing myself through colour and texture. I have many other outlets for my creativity, but art has been my main focus for the past twenty years.

SUNSHINE on your day from Visual Language Magazine's Artist of the Day Shirley Anderson

"Some would say that artists must give up the “arts scene” to live in an out-of-the-way place with the natural beauty that we enjoy. But I say, not so. We have it all here - nature’s beauty, a climate conducive to plein air painting, and a healthy focus on art education. It doesn’t get any better than this." - Shirley Anderson

" I thank my great granddaddy for passing on the artistic genes to me; he is my guardian angel. His plain gray easel, spotted with his past smears, dots of painting, and little holes from pinning his reference materials to it is what I use; it makes me feel close to him. I still have some of his brushes, well-used, worn-out nubs that they are. One of my prized possessions is his pencil self- portrait. His favorite story told over and over when we visited him was about Van Gogh."- Jonelle McCoy

"Sunlight fuels my passion to create art. I am fascinated by the way it passes through a transparent flower petal, how it dances through glass, warms the top of an apple and appoints sentiment to ordinary objects. Capturing that transformation when an object is illuminated into something previously unseen is what truly inspires me.  This Light is what drive me to share my perception with others; and is a reminder to cherish the nuances of life." -Linda McCoy

Ever since I was a little girl I drew, painted, photographed nature and knew I wanted to be an art teacher or an artist.  Nature has always been my subject matter whether expanse views or closeups of nature. After many years of studying Art  and teaching art & art history in both the U.S and thirty plus years  at Dawson College in Montreal, Canada. Upon retirement  a number of years ago I could  now devote full time to painting on a full time basis.

"At an early age, having found that the grandeur of nature has the ability to uplift the soul, my feet became set upon the path that would guide my artistic life. This emotional view of the world is something that I’ve tried to translate through my canvas so that the viewer can journey with me. Having been inspired by the impressionists, I strive to capture the vibrant energy and intrinsic beauty of our natural surroundings." - Niki Gulley

"My work is the result of imagination and nature. The style is minimalistic, abstract-figurative and has sometimes a touch of surrealism. Although the colours and the contrasts are strong , there is still a harmonic oneness."

"I have always loved to draw the face and figure. If I'm not actually drawing from the posed model or sketching people going about their everyday lives, I'm probably thinking about it. I seldom miss an opportunity to draw or paint from life and I strive every day to capture not just a likeness of my subjects, but also the more elusive qualities of spirit, mood and emotion. Each piece expresses unique rhythms and textures of the living earth. Lelija seeks out the interconnectedness of organic and inorganic elements. These glimpses encompass: the hazy light of early morning, the wind in an aspen grove, the silent struggle of a pinion pine on a canyon wall or the rush of the waterfall.

Victoria Pendragon is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© I AM..............#1 By Victoria Pendragon

© Lovers By Victoria Pendragon

© Staying Sane By Victoria Pendragon

Most of my work is on the small side, so that the viewer can experience intimately, as one might experience one’s own self in contemplation or a lover in the act of love, the depth and complexities of attachments, attraction and energy in the physical world. Men and women, where they appear in my work, represent all men and women, my couples, all couples of all kinds. My work is about our One-ness, our same-ness, and, perhaps ironically, our marvelous diversity and uniqueness. I see woman as Goddesses, men as Gods and all of us as the creators of our realities...personally and passionately empowered. I see the earth as nothing short of a wonderland. I stand in constant awe of every aspect of life and I create to honor it.
