"The inspiration for my abstract work comes from my life experiences; travel, nature, my environment, all culminating in a magical sort of way. It is usually subconscious, and impetuous, sparked by something seemingly as trivial as a word or a feeling. I strive not to answer the question of what my images mean but to encourage the viewer's curiosity. When the work invokes the feeling of "curiouser and curiouser" (thank you Alice) then I have achieved my goal." - Laura Reed

"I paint the things that make life worth living for me: landscapes, the natural world, and wildlife, especially birds. These things remind me that life is elegant and beautiful. Sometimes I paint simple things that feel vivid and full of life, like flowers or pets, or an image I can’t get off my mind.I paint using acrylics, brushes, and panels or canvas. The vibrant colors and creamy textures of modern acrylic paint make me happy. Depending upon the subject matter, I either apply the paint thickly and pay close attention to each brushstroke, or use layer upon layer of thin, light-refracting glazes. My subject matter is important in determining the method with which I paint.I paint realistically because I developed my drawing skills from an early age. Now I am exploring ways to combine my realistic style with less representational elements. I am striving to honor the beauty of the natural world within the context of my own inner vision.  I paint because I love it!"

"Sunlight fuels my passion to create art. I am fascinated by the way it passes through a transparent flower petal, how it dances through glass, warms the top of an apple and appoints sentiment to ordinary objects. Capturing that transformation when an object is illuminated into something previously unseen is what truly inspires me. This light is what drives me to share my perception with others; and is a reminder to cherish the nuances of life." -Linda McCoy

”My desire, though, is to stimulate art viewers to explore their own interpretation of my work.  When they connect with the art, I’ve succeeded. This is a process balanced between the artist’s creative desire and the interpretive acts of viewers. Art is ultimately about that human connection.” - Mark Yearwood

"I like to paint in places where the weather, the traditions and the geography still dominate;  where these elements identify and
characterize a locale.  Where I can still connect to what has gone before and one feels an authentic "sense of place"."

"My paintings are a result of a thoughtful, ongoing, creative and intuitive process. Creating art is a spiritual journey. It is somewhat of a surprise where a painting will lead me. I find that my paintings are more vivid and saturated than real life. I see color in a subject and intensify those hues in a painting. One of my goals is to bring honor and respect to the subjects that I paint. As a creator of art, I want the viewer to have a positive connection with my paintings." Carol Jo Smidt

Each piece expresses unique rhythms and textures of the living earth. Lelija seeks out the interconnectedness of organic and inorganic elements. These glimpses encompass: the hazy light of early morning, the wind in an aspen grove, the silent struggle of a pinion pine on a canyon wall or the rush of the waterfall.

"Painting is a huge part of my life and I try to work several hours each day. Surrounded by sea it is natural to be influenced and inspired by such changing beauty and this I try to capture in my work.  I paint in oil, acrylic, pastel and mixed media and my subjects vary according to my passion at the time. However, I am particularly drawn to seascapes and skies as they have moved me for as long as I can remember. Creativity is a wonderful gift which I use in many ways, but art is very close to my heart and something I could not live without." - Valerie Travers

"I like being in the moment when I work and I try to limit the amount of colors I use.  Generally I use vibrant colors especially reds and blues. I apply the paint with large brushes which  I usually purchase from the local paint store. My trusted palette knife is another piece in my arsenal that gets used regularly. Textured surfaces fascinate me. They seem to have a life of their own. Many of my canvas have been around for years getting more and more paint applied until the perfect picture emerges."- Gabriele Bitter

"I am mostly a self-taught, raw artist who draws inspiration from the world around me.  I love taking workshops to further my learning.  You can never cease to learn something new.  I usually paint from my photos.  I love bright, bold, rich colors.  I feel satisfied when someone can see the love I have put into the piece that I have created whether it is a landscape, a floral, a portrait, or a seascape. At this stage in my art career, I enjoy painting in Plein Air.  It is both exciting and frustrating.  Light changes, and shadows move, but I love it!  A paint brush is my favorite tool.  You can just about do anything with a brush and some paint.  Painting brings out my passion.  It is like reading a book; you can go anywhere.  It is my escape.  The problems of the world fade away.  For a few moments, it is just me and the canvas.  I feel as though I am meant to create art.  GOD has blessed me in this way." - Barbara Haviland
