"At an early age, having found that the grandeur of nature has the ability to uplift the soul, my feet became set upon the path that would guide my artistic life. This emotional view of the world is something that I’ve tried to translate through my canvas so that the viewer can journey with me. Having been inspired by the impressionists, I strive to capture the vibrant energy and intrinsic beauty of our natural surroundings." - Niki Gulley

"I have grown to love the process of painting from life, whether it be outdoors or from a set up in the studio.  Painting in the great outdoors creates an excitement within me that results in a
fun dance with the brush or palette knife.  Creating still lifes in the studio gives me control over color, shape, form and design.  My result is an explosion of color and energy. It's an
exhilarating and challenging adventure. I am inspired with the process and my gratitude to God for the artistic drive he has given me."  - Sheri Jones

Marzena Oberc-Habzda is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Renaissance By Marzena Oberc-Habzda

Marzena Oberc-Habzda is captivated, inspired as well as challenged by various subjects in nature.  Her focus is on nature's delicate yet powerful beauty, remarkable design and perfect color harmony.  She is driven by a need to explore and capture a certain sense of light to evoke desired emotion and inner feelings, not easily captured and expressed in words.
Marzena is fascinated with perfect unity, relationship of shapes and harmony of color that nature delivers with such ease and perfection.   This creates constant excitement, drive and a spontaneous approach to the subject.  Inspiration for each painting comes from seeing and experiencing something beautiful, something so captivating that it takes artist's breath away.

V. L. Rees is best known for contemporary realism executed in oils.  However, on hot summer afternoons, she has been known to give in to the abstract.

She draws inspiration from her appreciation of the beauty found in the everyday.  Unusual angles, dramatic lighting, and nature's intricacies all capture her attention.

"Abstraction can involve an application of a medium to a surface that changes it and the rectangle, and the evolving image, and continues to do so every time the pencil, pastel, or paint is applied. The image transforms by addition, alteration, or reduction until what is acceptable to me as a final resolution has been reached. Hopefully, the result presents an interesting configuration of forms, values, colors, and textures that produce a desirable drama, poetry, or intellectually stimulating image that moves the viewer.
With figurative work that same combination of elements should result in pleasing pictures. However with realism or figuration the final image is for the most part already in the mind's eye." Stanley Sherr

"My paintings are an improvisation. The very act of painting is joyful, spontaneous and physical (like acting or dance) especially with the larger paintings. I paint to music, mostly Italian operas and have found I am emotionally attached to each one. Paintings are taken from my photographs and each photo calls for different brushes, techniques and style. I love how color and light plays upon various subjects. The light is very different in Italy, different again in England, and yet again in my own backyard." - Ricci Victorio

"I believe that art should be expressive and truthful.  Besides just realistically painting an aircraft, I try to create emotional and dramatic elements that make the painting exciting and engaging.  I have completed numerous tours with various squadrons during my active duty years (VXE-6, VP-24, VP-64, USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67), and VP-62) as a Naval Flight Officer/TAO and I believe that this has helped me to add elements to my paintings " - Robert Fiacco

"The inspiration for my abstract work comes from my life experiences; travel, nature, my environment, all culminating in a magical sort of way. It is usually subconscious, and impetuous, sparked by something seemingly as trivial as a word or a feeling. I strive not to answer the question of what my images mean but to encourage the viewer's curiosity. When the work invokes the feeling of "curiouser and curiouser" (thank you Alice) then I have achieved my goal." - Laura Reed

"As my work juxtaposes themes of simplicity with excitement, there are other paradoxical elements that play a role in making these ordinary objects opportunities for exploration and reconsideration.  I often work in series, focusing each painting or panel on a single object rather than in narrative scenes, allowing the interaction between these independent paintings determine the voice of the work. Drawn to objects with shiny or reflective surfaces, much of my work has revolved around childhood toys.  These paintings pull together themes of the hand crafted versus the mass-produced, childhood versus adulthood, and reality versus imagination.  As I continue to explore these reminescent toys in my current work, I have begun to introduce other everyday objects into my paintings."

”My desire, though, is to stimulate art viewers to explore their own interpretation of my work.  When they connect with the art, I’ve succeeded. This is a process balanced between the artist’s creative desire and the interpretive acts of viewers. Art is ultimately about that human connection.” - Mark Yearwood

"Bold, vivid expressions of color, light, perspective and texture compel me. My passion is to express the beauty and truth that exists in the natural and spiritual realms. To create the desired effects I use whatever tools my hands fall on first, including, for example, sponges, knives, rollers, grooming tools, even my own hands/fingers. My newest body of work incorporates various light reflecting materials such as metallic elements that sparkle and films that split light into its spectral colors. Layers of acrylics are applied followed by oils with the light reflecting elements being embedded in the various layers." - Diane Fairfield
